The
Hotel:
|
|
The one time mountain village of
St. Anton was once an important stop on an old trade route over the
Arlberg Pass.
The village contained a small inn with the name "Zur alten Post",
the proprietor was also a postmaster. At the end of the last century summer visitors began to discover the
wonderful landscape and refreshing climate around Arlberg and thus paved the way for tourism.
Tourism greatly increased with the construction of the Arlberg tram
and the completion of the almost 11 kilometre long train tunnel.
Skiing, imported for generations, built the "Hotel Post" in 1896. His
son, Walter Schuler, contracted no one less than the great architect
Clemens Holzmeister to expand the house into a Sporthotel in 1928.
The Alber family has been running the
four-star hotel for a few years and they
go to lengths to maintain tradition as
well as provide modern amenities.
The Hotel Post is now celebrating more than hundred years
of hospitality, which shows that, after housing generations of
visitors, the hotel has not lost any of its appeal.
